Khurana not in BJP’s election committee

The BJP chief announced the poll management committee and veteran leader ML Khurana, however, does not figure among those identified for managing the election for the party. HT reports.

Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Harsh Vardhan on Monday announced the poll management committee for the forthcoming Assembly elections. Vijay Kumar Malhotra will head the 81-member panel. Veteran leader Madan Lal Khurana, however, does not figure among those identified for managing the election for the party.

Harsh Vardhan desisted from making any remarks on the former chief minister’s absence from the BJP’s backroom team, insisting that the decision to keep Khurana out was not his. “It is the party’s decision,” he said.

Khurana, who was recently accepted back in the party’s fold after apologising for openly rebelling against the party leadership, also refused to comment on the issue.

“I am not going to make any political comment at this stage,” Khurana said when contacted by Hindustan Times. The BJP had gone to the Assembly polls the last time around under Khurana’s leadership, but party insiders say his involvement in the state election is going to be negligible this time. Sources say Khurana has been instructed to stay mum and out of the political fray.

“This is the same team under which the MCD elections were conducted in 2007. The party was victorious and we are expecting a repeat performance,” said Harsh Vardhan.

Vardhan added that the BJP was likely to declare its candidates soon keeping in mind the November-December poll date.
