Gandhy sought the court’s intervention since he is “unhappy” with the way his ailments are being attended to by jail authorities. “He wants to be treated at AIIMS though he is already getting medical treatment at the Gobind Ballabh Pant hospital and Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital, whenever required,” said the source. Ghandy occupies a high-security, single cell in sub-jail number 3. According to jail officials, he spends a majority of his time reading books and penning memoirs on his late wife and comrade Anuradha Shanbag. He is not known to mix too much with fellow inmates and keeps to himself. He, along with Shanbag, was a member of the banned CPI (M)’s central committee.
