Lawyer fined for Maya’s narco test plea

The Supreme Court on Monday imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on an advocate for seeking narco-analysis tests of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and the state’s three former chief ministers, but waived it following an appeal by eminent jurist Ram Jethmalani.

The Supreme Court on Monday imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on an advocate for seeking narco-analysis tests of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and the state’s three former chief ministers, but waived it following an appeal by eminent jurist Ram Jethmalani.

A furious bench headed by Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan imposed the fine on advocate Samar Singh after he insisted with his plea, ignoring the court’s repeated question as to what he knew about narco-analysis tests.

Singh, an advocate practicing in the Allahabad High Court, had moved SC seeking direction for subjecting state’s sitting Chief Minister Mayawati and its former chief ministers Rajnath Singh, Kalyan Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav to narco test.
