Athruddin alias Athar Ali was brought in the national capital from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh as he was in the judicial custody there since 2004 in a POTA case.

Delhi police secured one-day remand of Athruddin from the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja.

It was alleged that Athruddin, a Lucknow resident, was involved with prime accused and Pakistan national Mohd Arif, already awarded capital punishment by the Delhi High Court in the case, as he had telephonic conversation with him from different STD booths in Lucknow.

A court here had issued production warrant against him on November 30, 2004.

Athruddin was first arrested by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police on May 26, 2004, in a POTA case registered in Lucknow.

A trial court had on October 31, 2005, had awarded death penalty to Arif and varying jail terms to six others, including a Kashmiri father-son-duo.

A group of armed militants had stormed the historic Red Fort on December 22, 2000, and resorted to indiscriminate firings killing three army personnel.
