Almost four months before the 26/11 attacks, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) bosses had entrusted Abu Jundal with the task of making the attackers "look, behave and speak" like Indians, home ministry sources told HT.

Jundal told interrogators that the idea was to make the attack look like an operation carried out by "disgruntled" Indian Muslims - a follow-up of a series of urban bombings carried out by Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives between 2005 and 2008.

"In that scheme of things, Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal played a vital role. Only a person like Jundal could come up with (an idea like) mentioning the Sachar report," said a senior official. "Jundal has confirmed what Kasab and Headley told Indian investigators earlier about the ISI-LeT combine's involvement in the 26/11 attacks."Revealing the ISI's involvement, Jundal stated that operatives of the Pakistani agency installed voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) connections in laptops before handing them to LeT bosses so they could stay in touch with 26/11 attackers.

More importantly, Jundal has also reportedly spilled the beans on a "sham" enacted by Pakistan in the guise of conducting the 26/11 attacks trial.

Though Pakistan has arrested five persons - Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi, Mazhar Iqbal, Abdul Wajid, Shahid Jameel Riyaz and Hammad Amin Sadiq - Jundal told interrogators that Lakhvi continues to coordinate LeT activities from Adiala jail.

Jundal, who has met Lakhvi in prison, said the latter has access to every comfort in cell. He has also revealed the existence of an LeT safehouse in Karachi, codenamed 'Azizabad'.
