Light fog in Delhi delays 23 flights, mercury to hover around 8 degrees Celsius

Minimum temperatures in and around Delhi plummeted to seven degrees Celsius on Monday, with the weatherman predicting mercury levels to hover around single digits over the next few days. A light fog delayed 23 flights in the morning, while four flights were cancelled.

“The conditions are going to remain similar. The minimum temperature is going to range between 7-9 degrees and is unlikely to decrease further within this week itself,” an official from the India Meteorological (MeT) Department said.

Delhi witnessed a moderate fog cover on Monday morning which triggered delays in 23 flights and cancellation of four others. Visibility was recorded at 400 metres at 5:30 am.

“Six international and nine domestic arrivals have been delayed whereas two flights have been cancelled. Among the departure flights, eight have been delayed and two cancelled,” an airport official said.

The MeT department predicted skies will be mainly clear as the day progress. “The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 23 degrees Celsius,” an official from the department added.

On Sunday, the minimum temperature touched 7.2 degree Celsius, which was a degree below normal for the season. The maximum temperature hovered around 22 degrees Celsius during the day.
