The health department has not started fogging and anti-mosquito breeding measures to prevent the deadly disease from spreading.

It mainly relies on preventive measures to check breeding of mosquitoes.

The number of malaria cases touched 51 by June 30, while it was just 22 for the same period in 2010.

Residents of high-rise buildings have taken an initiative and started fogging in and around their societies to deal with the problem in the wake of the administration’s failure to contain the menace.

But they feel that these measures are not enough as the city is full of stagnant water giving open invitation to the disease.

“We have two fogging machines and every evening our office staff sprays DDT to kill mosquitoes near the area. We cannot rely on authorities,” said Atul Batra, president of Heritage City Residents’ Welfare Association.

Kamal Sood, president, Hamilton Court, said, “We have started fogging in our area twice a week. But once we move out, roads are full of stagnant water. We cannot do anything.”
