Gupta has already been convicted in four cases and has been declared a proclaimed offender in two cases of false surety.
"Gupta was caught from Malviya Nagar on a tip-off. He revealed that he lived with his family at Teliwada in Old Delhi and worked in a stationary manufacturing factory," said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south).
To make more money, he started giving false surety on behalf of criminals. “In 1988, he came in contact with one Raj Kumar, who instigated him into giving surety for a criminal. Kumar offered Gupta R400 for the job. In 22 years, he has given false surety for more than 3,000 criminals in three courts,” she said.
The police found the munshis of advocates, vendors around the court complexes and even lawyers acted as mediators.
