Many withdraw from off-campus colleges post second cut-off list

Off-campus colleges in Delhi University got a mixed response after the release of the second cut-off list. Many colleges, which saw over admission in the first cut-off list, witnessed withdrawal of admissions by students who wanted to move to colleges and courses of their choice.

Colleges such as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College and Janki Devi Memorial College have closed admissions for courses such as BCom (Hons) and economics (honours), respectively, with the two courses proving to be the most sought after among the DU aspirants.

"This year the turnout has been fairly better as compared to last year. While last year the number of seats filled after the first cut-off list were about 115, this year we have admitted 300 students before the release of the second cut-off list," said SK Garg, principal, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College.

The college has also seen a large influx of students from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, with a majority of them, seeking admission in BCom (Hons), thereby filling up 98 seats out of 123 seats in the course.

"Out of a total of 1,406 seats, so far we have admitted 1,100 students.

While admissions to courses such as BCom (Hons) and mathematics (honours) have been good, the

declaration of the second cut-off list saw a cancellation in 50 admissions," said IS Bakshi, principal, Dyal Singh College.

A similar situation prevailed in Moti Lal Nehru College with students withdrawing applications from admissions in favour of other courses and colleges.

"About 5-6 students have withdrawn their admission applications without even submitting the fees
following Tuesday's cut-off list.

This means they are choosing other colleges or courses over the ones that they had actually taken admission in.

This trend is likely to continue in the coming days as well," said P Sengupta, principal, Moti Lal Nehru College.
