Studying Mathematics (Honours) or Economics (Honours) at St Stephen’s will be easier this year. Both have lower cut-offs than last year for general category students.

The list put up by the college on Sunday also showed an up to 3 per cent drop in the cut-offs of various other subjects. “The decrease is due to new admission guidelines, aimed at bridging the gap between general and Christian students. This will help more meritorious students appear for the interviews,” principal Valson Thampu said.
The rules, passed by the college on May 26, say the merit differential between reserved and general categories can’t exceed 15 per cent. If Christian category seats aren’t filled, they’ll be shifted to the general pool.
Is this an indicator for cut-offs in other colleges?
“It would not be correct to say cut-offs of other colleges too would be low,” said V.K. Kawatra, principal, Hansraj College.
But Vinay Kumar Srivastav, principal of Hindu, said: “There could be a marginal dip.”
