The Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has alleged that its officials fraudulently withdrew several lakhs of rupees in the name of arranging temporary lights during Ramlila and Dussehra.

Raising the issue in the Standing Committee meeting of the MCD, leader of Opposition Jai Kishan Sharma alleged that officials of the electrical engineering division-III had committed fraud to the tune of Rs 16.84 lakh for providing temporary lights during Ramlila and Dussehra in ward number 136.
"There were several irregularities in the tender process. Though temporary lights had to be arranged for one place, tender had been invited for five places. The official of the department concerned showed Ramlila and Dussehra as two different festivals to benefit the contractor. Payments were also made twice," he said.
Sharma further alleged that in ward number 135, for the arrangement of temporary lights during Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath Puja, the corporation had spent Rs 15.59 lakh.
For Chhath Puja, lights had to be arranged for a day, but the order was given for eight days.
