According to the civic agency, the building department, central zone has undertaken 49 demolition actions during June itself.

"This demolition action drive against unauthorised construction activities has sent a message to unscrupulous builders to respect laws and MCD government protocols," said a senior MCD official.

"The civic body is in no mood to giving respite to offenders; travesty of law will not be tolerated," he added.

Demolition action in respect of non-recovery of parking and conversion charges is also being contemplated by the MCD after the June 30 payment deadline.

"According to the Master Plan-2021, premises under mixed use shall be liable for mixed use charges every year, latest by June 30, which is the last date for depositing of such conversion charges and parking charges," said the official.

In order to facilitate matters for the general public, the building department of the central zone has set up 24 counters exclusively for recovery of these charges.

According to MCD, central zone's building department has already recovered an amount of Rs. 275 crore as conversion and parking charges so far.

"On Tuesday and Wednesday itself, about 700 people visited this office and deposited about Rs. 160 lakh. Till June 30, large numbers of people are expected, therefore counters for the purpose have been increased," he said.
