Several councillors of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday were a miffed lot, with MCD officials repeatedly bunking meetings of the Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) that looks into complaints made by the general public. The GRC is a significant panel in the MCD, as it discusses complaints against MCD officials made by the public.

After officials once again bunked the meeting on Wednesday, members of the committee are now planning to boycott any such meeting in future. They would also apprise Delhi lieutenant governor Tejendra Khanna about the matter.
Chairman GRC Chaudhary Rambir Singh said that they have been apprising MCD commissioner KS Mehra about the lack of involvement on the part of the officials but despite the complaints, no concrete steps have been taken. “It is ridiculous. The agenda went undiscussed,” said Singh.
“We have placed complaint boxes in every zone. Those complaints are discussed in the meeting. If no MCD official attends the meeting and takes the functioning of the committee seriously, how can we improve the system? It is a mockery of the law,” said Harish Awasthi, a councillor and member of GRC.
Harbans Lal Uppal, a councilor from Shalimar Bagh said several important issues like sanitation, potholes and malfunctioning of streetlights were to be discussed.
