MCD’s sealing drive targets Gaffar Market

The MCD’s sealing drive started on Tuesday with the Karol Bagh zone. Shops in Gaffar Market were targetted. However, the civic agency claimed that despite the police commissioner’s assurance, adequate security was not provided to its staff.

The MCD’s sealing drive started on Tuesday with the Karol Bagh zone. Shops in Gaffar Market were targetted. However, the civic agency claimed that despite the police commissioner’s assurance, adequate security was not provided to its staff.

So, only two points in a shop were sealed on Tuesday. “As we reached the market to start sealing the structures, a large number of shopkeepers and locals got together and forced us to halt the drive,” said a senior MCD official.

As per the directions of the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee the civic agency has to seal at least 18 illegal properties in the market.
The MCD will resume its action on Wednesday and it is expected to continue for couple of days.
