MCD seals 28 illegal flats in new drive

Acting on the directions of the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee which looks into issues related to misuse of residential properties for commercial activities, the MCD's south zone took action on 17 properties in Kishangarh.

A total of 28 units were sealed by the civic agency. "A total of 28 units of 17 properties which are being misused or in which unauthorised construction has been carried out were sealed. The DDA staff as well as Revenue Department including the concerned SDM was also present at the spot," said a senior MCD official.

"We had been trying to take action here but could not execute it as the police force was not being provided. But on Monday, the police force was made available on the directions of the Monitoring Committee and action has been taken on the basis of the identification done by the staff of DDA, as DDA is the land owning agency of the Kishangarh area," added the official.

"The builder mafia had simply encroached upon the government land and built multi-storied flats illegally. They would have simply sold it off to the general public. It is DDA's land and in the guise of carrying out construction on agricultural land they had been building flats," said Bhure Lal, member of the Monitoring Committee.

In addition to this, sealing and demolition action was carried out in areas such as Mangolpuri, Rohini, Tri Nagar, Keshav Puram, Burari, Majlis Park, Burari, Kewal Park, Model Town and Mukherjee Nagar.
