MCD seals commercial units in Lajpat Nagar

The sealing squad of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) took action on six commercial units, including a branch of a public sector bank, for alleged non-payment of conversion charges within the stipulated time frame.

The building department of central zone carried out the sealing drive on notified roads in Lajpat Nagar. It is mandatory for those running commercial units on roads notified as commercial or mixed-land use to pay annual conversion charges to the MCD.

"The owners of these shops had failed to deposit the annual conversion charges within the stipulated time-frame prescribed in the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 even after being served a notice in this regard," said a senior MCD official.

According to the civic body, a branch of Axis Bank in Lajpat Nagar-II was among the six properties sealed. In addition, the building department also sealed three banks in Greater Kailash-I area on account of misuse earlier.

As per MPD-2021, all eligible property owners running commercial activities from their premises situated on notified roads are required to deposit annual conversion charges.

The MCD has advised the defaulters to deposit the applicable charges to avoid sealing.
