Delhi Metro offers more than 11 lakh Delhiites a snarl-free ride to their destinations every day. On Tuesday, however, a short-circuit in Rajiv Chowk metro station, which led to 20 trains getting stalled, led to massive traffic jams on the roads in Connaught Place (CP).

This could well be a curtain raiser to the chaos likely at CP on Wednesday when more than 3,000 farmers descend on the Capital to attend a kisan (farmers) rally.

Tuesday's glitch at Rajiv Chowk and the subsequent cancellation of trains led to a wave of Metro users spilling out of the crowded station, causing a jam — from noon till evening — that took four hours to clear.

Building material lying at several places made matters worse on the Outer Circle.

To divert traffic toward Mandi House and Windsor Place, the police used cranes as road barricades near Scindia House.

The visit of the head of Myanmar's military government also caused problems as some roads were blocked to facilitate his movement.
