Metro to build 9 sub-stations to power new corridors

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation plans to construct nine power-receiving sub-stations and strengthen four of its existing sub-stations to power the Metro corridors that are coming up as part of its Phase 3 of expansions.

The Delhi Metro’s power requirements are currently regulated by 15 sub-stations, which are located in different parts of the National Capital Region.

Of the new sub-stations, five — Yamuna Vihar, Vinod Nagar depot, INA, Dhaula Kuan and Mukundpur Depot — will cater to the 56km-long Mukundpur-Gokulpuri (Yamuna Vihar) corridor. Three sub-stations — Kalkaji, RK Puram and Palam — will supply to the 34km-long Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor. A new sub-station at Faridabad will supply power to the 14km-long Badarpur-YMCA Chowk corridor.

However, power to the 3km-long Jahangirpuri-Badli corridor, which will be an extension of the Gurgaon-Jahangirpuri line, would be supplied by existing sub-stations.

“Auxiliary power at 33KV and traction power at 25KV will be supplied from these receiving sub-stations to the new Metro stations,” DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
