Women may not be allowed two exclusive coaches on the eight-coach Metro trains, as suggested earlier.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has analysed the rush of women commuters and found that it would not be feasible to reserve two coaches of an eight-coach train for women.
Earlier on January 21, Delhi Metro had received a letter from the Delhi CM’s office, asking them to introduce two women’s compartments in eight-coach trains, said Sharat Sharma, director (operations).
“We are not going to reserve two coaches of eight-coach trains for women commuters,” said Vikas Kumar, general manager (operations), DMRC.
Demands for more reserved space for women passengers were raised after the December 16 gang rape and subsequent death of a 23-year-old woman.
According to sources, the DMRC would have reserved two coaches for women commuters if at least 25% of the commuters were women.
The Delhi Metro had introduced the first eight-coach train on the busy Gurgaon-Jahangirpuri corridor in December end.
