150 students from local government girls higher secondary school in Neyeveli, 150 km south of Chennai, complained of nausea, headache, vomiting after having lunch at school premises.

Fortunately, Tamil Nadu heaved a sigh of relief as there were no casualties and most of the girls were discharged from the government hospital after receiving first aid.

Out of the 143 girls rushed to the hospital on Thursday afternoon, 13 were admitted and were placed under observation.
They are also likely to be discharged by Friday.

“There is absolutely no danger as they are all stable,” said Dr Janardhan who was attending the students. The girls were under close observation and were put on drip.

Collector Kirlosh Kumar said there was no cause of any worry as all the girls were discharged barring a few, now under observation.

Food contamination is suspected to be the reason behind the incident. Samples were collected and have been sent for examination, the collector said.

No arrests have been made, but enquiry is going on, he added.
