Students who had been pinning their hopes on the third cut-off list have little to cheer about. Although some colleges have managed to bring out a third list for popular courses such as english, hindi and philosophy, students don't see any relief coming their way.

"Colleges should have allocated a fixed number of seats per cut-off list so that students could still seek admission under the third list. Most colleges have closed admission for the humanities courses. It does not seem fair that a high scorer will have to pick leftover subjects," said Adarsh Kathuria, an applicant. "With most avenues closed, there is nothing that a student, who is genuinely interested in the subject, can do. The new admission system and the cut-offs have actually prompted students to think about distance learning," added Kathuria.

But some students are still optimistic and are banking on the third cut-off list for subjects like history (honours) and political science (honours). Some colleges like Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC), Kirori Mal, Kamla Nehru and Hindu College have brought out a third list for English (honours) - one of the few honours courses where there is still some scope.
