With 378 candidates vying for 35 seats in the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon, the fight was very tough. For almost every ward, there was an average of 10 candidates aspiring to become the area councillor.

However, victory came easy in some wards like 6, 8, 12, 13, 18, 20 and 24, where winners won by a margin of more than 1,000 votes.
Yashpal Batra, who contested from ward no. 12, defeated Madan Lal by 4,530 votes, while Rishi Raj Rana shot ahead of his immediate contender by 3,272 votes. On the other hand, in some wards the fight was neck-to-neck. Victory appeared as a stroke of luck for Taro Devi of ward no. 16 who won by just 15 votes. Others who won by slight margins include Gaje Singh and Seema Pahuja.
Singh won by 81 votes from ward no 5, while Pahuja from ward no. 11 won by 93 votes.
Similar was the case with Ashok in ward no. 31 and Mahesh Dayma from ward no. 32, who won by 43 and 98 votes, respectively. Sunita Kataria, who won by 822 votes from ward no. 14, said, “Women have played a significant role in my case. My ward was reserved for women and all my volunteers and supporters were women. They mobilised rural women and residents of Sector 5 to come out and vote.”
