If general elections were held now, 40% respondents intend to vote for the BJP-led opposition alliance NDA and only 27% for the UPA, according to the latest survey conducted by ABP News-Nieslen.

Narendra Modi is leading the race (47%) for Prime Minister, followed by Rahul Gandhi (18%) and Manmohan Singh (14%). Modi is popular among voters from the north, the younger generation and affluents. He also seems to have a "greater magnetic power" than Priyanka Gandhi, the survey said.
It found 36% respondents voting for the BJP and 22% for the Congress if general elections were held now. The BJP emerges the clear winner across all zones and gender.
The survey showed a major setback for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as his performance has been rated below average. Nearly 40% respondents hold him responsible for the poor economic situation. Across all zones except the south, Modi emerged as the clear choice for the position of Prime Minister.
