New hiring process adds to MCD woes

According to an official of the education department, the problem has arisen due to recent changes made in the recruitment process of school attendants.

Attendants at MCD schools are ayahs who look after the 10 lakh student studying there.

Students educated upto Class 9 qualify for the post and are paid Rs 5,000 per month.

Mahender Nagpal, chairman of Education Committee said the MCD had changed the recruitment process in an attempt to do away with corruption during the recruitment process. He, however, said it has not served the purpose.

“Recently we had to hold an urgent meeting of the education committee because many people complained they were being asked to pay bribe for the job,” he said.

Earlier the recruitment was done by the education department but this time the Central Establishment Department (CED) of MCD has been given the task of recruiting them. The department requests the Employment Exchange for applications and the exchange has sent a list of 63,000 applicants.

MCD is also handling its own recruitment process for the post of 1,600 teachers and has received 59,000 applications for the same.

MCD has 1,729 schools in which around 8,000 teachers are employed.
