No illegality in allotment of plots: PM's advisor

A report in The Hindu alleged on Sunday that two plots were allotted to Nair’s niece and a friend at Bangalore’s BEML housing society in an “irregular" manner in 2008. In his reaction, Nair said that “no irregularity or illegality” was committed in allotment of the said plots to the best of his knowledge.

Though he dismissed the report, suggesting a link between the allotments and the Tatra truck deal, as “absolutely baseless”, Nair said he has asked for “all the relevant facts” in the matter.

“My attention has been drawn to media reports about the alleged irregular allotment of residential plots of the Housing Cooperative Society of BEML to my relatives and family friends. To the best of my knowledge, no irregularity or illegality was involved in the allotments,” Nair said in a statement.

“I have requested the PMO to obtain all the relevant facts in this matter through the Department of Defence Production,” he added.

The report stated that the allotments were made (at “throwaway prices”) to Nair’s niece, A Preethy Prabha, and family friend, Uma Devi Nambiar, at a time when complaints about the role of BEML chairman and managing director VRS Natarajan in the controversial Tatra truck deal were pending with the PMO, besides the Central Vigilance Commission and the ministry of defence.
