No need for Govt to consult EC on extension to Home Secy
A day after the Centre extended the tenure of Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta by three months in view of Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission said there was no need for the government to hold any consultation with it on the issue.
A day after the Centre extended the tenure of Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta by three months in view of Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission on Saturday said there was no need for the government to hold any consultation with it on the issue.
"The Commission is not required to be consulted, and nor was it consulted on the three-month extension given to the Home Secretary," EC sources said.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the extension till June 30 to Gupta, a 1971-batch IAS officer of Uttarakhand cadre, barely four days before he was to retire on March 31.
Gupta has been involved in discussions with the Election Commission on requirement of forces and their deployment for holding the general elections peacefully.
