No new terror threats, but security high: Home Secy

Home Secretary G.K. Pillai said on Monday that there was no credible threat to sporting events in India but emphasised that the government was taking maximum precautions to ensure foolproof security.

“At the moment, there are no credible threats to any of the sporting events. But, we take all the precautions and will continue to take maximum precautions in the coming months also,” Pillai said. According to Pillai, the government has not received any “new” threats.

The Home Ministry had recently decided to review the security arrangements for the hockey World Cup beginning February 28, the Commonwealth Games and the Indian Premier League after the Pune blast.

The main concern is over World Hockey Championship as any terror incident in the run-up to the event may lead to withdrawal of nations participating in the Commonwealth Games. Pillai said all international tournaments were being treated as test runs for the October Games
