And, the authorities do not promise the situation to improve on Wednesday, with load restrictions likely to lead to frequent power outages. There was power cut from 11 a.m. in most areas lasting for more than four hours.

Sankalita Saha, a housewife from Munirka Vihar, spent most of her day using the hand-held fan to keep her 2-and-half-year-old daughter in good humour. “Otherwise, the child starts crying. There was no intimation about power cuts.”

Water, too, was a problem for the Sahas as the supply that seemed to have restored in the morning, was gone in the evening. The situation was no different in other parts of south Delhi.

“Contrary to what officials claimed on Monday, no alternative arrangements were made. There was no power supply for more than four hours. It was impossible to carry out our daily chores,” said N.K. Vaid, secretary general of Vasant Kunj Federation.

“We don’t know for how long will this continue.”

Water supply was erratic in many parts catered by Sonia Vihar and Bhagirathi plants of Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Residents, who were expecting normal supply, going by the DJB officials’ promises through the media, were left waiting for water through the day.

DJB CEO Ramesh Negi said, “Not all UGRs (under ground reservoirs) were full last night, that is why there was partial disruption in supply in south and east Delhi. By tonight all the UGRs would be filled.”

An agitation by Jat community on Sunday had disrupted water supply to DJB’s two plants, which cater to East and south Delhi.
