Former telecom minister A Raja on Tuesday told a Delhi court that CBI lacked "contemporaneous record" to support its allegation that his then personal secretary RK Chandolia tried to influence the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) officials on his behalf in 2G case.

Senior advocate Sushil Kumar, appearing for Raja, told Special CBI Judge O P Saini that the allegation that he (Raja) orally instructed Chandolia, a co-accused, to influence DoT officials for favouring accused firms is not supported by documentary evidence.

"Government does not run on oral instructions," he said adding "it is not backed by any contemporaneous record that my personal secretary tried to influence the officers (of the DoT) in my name."

"Oral order by a minister to his officers, conveyed by his personal secretary, should be followed by a written order," he said.
