Unable to take care of its schools, the North Corporation may seek help from NGOs and the corporate sector to provide facilities such as books and study material to its students.
Rekha Gupta, chairman education committee said, "Many municipal schools are in a bad shape and if there is more participation from NGOs and the corporate sector, they can be bettered. They can help run the schools of municipal corporation by giving special classes to students, training teachers and providing libraries."
There are several schools in the corporation that are no longer in use. Leader of the house in the north corporation, Dr. Mahender Nagpal, in a letter written to the commissioner on Friday suggested that such buildings should be converted to gyms and community centres.
"Instead of letting plots remain idle, the corporation can build welfare centres for the citizens who can pay a fee to use them. That way the land can be used productively," he said.
