The sealing threat is looming large on a number of furniture showrooms, shops dealing in plywood and hardware and electrical fittings in south Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur.

The MCD has identified the shops which have carried out illegal construction or have been built illegally and will be sealed next week by the MCD.

Though the entire stretch in Kotla Mubarakpur called Bhishma Pitamah Marg is a notified stretch where commercial activities can be carried out, a number of shop owners have illegally built additional floors without taking MCD’s permission. Other areas where action will bet taken include Wazirnagar, Subhash Market, and Krishna Gali.

“When we submit our plans for clearance, the MCD keeps delaying it. Naturally, people start constructing on their own,” said a shop owner.

The MCD said that some of the properties where action will be taken are on the direction of the Delhi government-constituted Special Task Force which looks into cases related to illegal construction. “We have carried out a survey and served notices to the shop owners,” said a senior MCD official.

To begin with, sealing action will be taken against 30 properties. “There are a number of shops who have built five storeys and have also crossed the permissible limit of 15m,” added the official.
