A sprawling park and ride facility at the Safdarjung Airport for the Commonwealth Games was inaugurated on Saturday. Spectators coming to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium are expected to park their private vehicles at this facility and take a ride on the special buses that would shuttle between the stadium and the newly inaugurated facility. The dedicated parking, to be used only during the Games and later dismantled, is spread over a 17,000 sq metres etched out of the Safdarjung Airport premises. It will accommodate around 3,000 cars, 6,000 two-wheelers and 450 buses.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was scheduled to inaugurate the facility. In her absence, NDMC vice-chairperson Tajdar Babar, members Mukesh Bhat and Karan Singh Tanwar (MLA) inaugurated the facility.
The project was built at a cost of Rs 40 crore and took 10 months.
