Led from the front by the Intelligence Bureau, they have asked the government to reserve 5% seats for wards of all serving and retired central armed police forces (CAPFs) personnel at government-run technical and professional institutions.

CAPFs constitute agencies such as the Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Central Industrial Security Force and Central Bureau of Investigation.

“We are raising this demand as part of welfare measures for CAPFs, who are engaged in counter-insurgency and anti-naxal duties across the country. It will help lift the morale of personnel battling on internal security fronts. Efforts have been on from last year itself,” said a CAPF official.

According to sources, the director general of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) and the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry were asked last April to provide a list of all institutions run by the central and state governments. The BPR&D has already submitted a list of MBBS and dental colleges to the Union home ministry.

According to sources, the demand for 5% reservation to wards of CAPF personnel was raised after all the central forces agreed unanimously on the issue. “We hope our proposal will be considered positively. If the government finds it difficult to accept the demand of 5%, we can be flexible in our approach,” the CAPF official said.
