The CBI has sought to set up a special court for speedy trial of cases related to alleged irregularities in the implementation of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scheme in Uttar Pradesh.

“We have moved an application in the Allahabad high court requesting it to set up a special trial court that could hear NRHM cases on a daily basis,” said a CBI source.
The CBI has so far lodged 14 cases related to alleged irregularities in the award of NRHM contracts for works, including upgradation of hospitals in 72 UP districts, purchase of medicines and medical equipments.
The CBI is likely to lodge 10 more cases as it prepares to examine irregularities in the use of funds allocated to the chief medical officers (CMOs) under the Janani Suraksha Yojana— part of the NRHM scheme — in 2005-08. “The role of nine CMOs is under scanner,” said the source.
