Nupur turns to SC seeking relief

As Nupur Talwar on Friday sought quashing of all charges against her in the murders of daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, the CBI took strong exception to her move saying the argument was beyond the scope of her plea for review of an earlier order of the Supreme Court. Nupur, in jail since April 30, has sought review of a February 2012 order that found no fault with an Allahabad High Court order upholding a magistrate’s direction summoning her as an accused in the May 2008 twin murder case.

As additional solicitor-general Harin Raval said the court’s deliberation was going beyond the scope of the review petition, Justice AK Patnaik, heading the bench, reacted sharply. Justice JS Khehar who was part of the bench that rejected Nupur’s plea against the summons is the other judge on the bench.

“For us, the CBI does not matter. For us, the media does not matter. For us only the ends of justice matters. Don’t threaten us, Mr Raval... ” Justice Patnaik said. “The type of arguments Raval is making is not going to affect me. There cannot be a question to my commitment for justice,” the judge added.

The CBI has also accused Nupur of bench hunting. The alleged that in the garb of review, the dentist was seeking a re-hearing of the matter.
