The organising committee (OC) will be releasing a fresh lot of around 1000 tickets for Rs 1,000 each in a week's time. Most of the Rs 1,000 tickets were sold out in the first two phases of sale.

"We have limited tickets of that value since tickets worth Rs1,000 each were few in number to begin with and they were expected to be sold out the fastest," said a senior OC official on the condition of anonymity.

A mad scramble is expected for these tickets since the remaining lot will cost Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000 per ticket.

The OC has also decided to release another lot of tickets for Rs 5,000 each.

"We will release around 5,000 tickets for Rs 5,000 each. These tickets, too, sell out fast," said Lalit Bhanot, OC Secretary General. Tickets for the opening ceremony — which will feature music composer AR Rahman among others — is the most sought-after event and initially had just 45,000 tickets for sale. The rest were VIP passes. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium has a seating capacity of around 66,000.

In order to boost the sale further, the OC is deciding on corporate bulk bookings. The target is to sell 17 lakh tickets, said an official.

Of the tickets sold so far for various sporting events, hockey turns out to be the most popular, followed by swimming, tennis and gymnastics.
