The MoU signed by NIAR director-general Dr Kush Verma and OP Jindal Global University vice-chancellor prof C Raj Kumar on May 25 also covers hosting of visiting academic delegations, development of research centres, organisation of conferences and promoting scholarship through publication.

“We are already working with the National Police Academy, Hyderabad,” Kumar told Hindustan Times.

He added: “The MoU with LBSNAA has been built upon the existing relationship of JGU with the National Police Academy and evolving collaborative arrangements with the Foreign Service Training Institute, the CBI Academy and other similar national institutions.”

The Ministry of Home Affairs had awarded the contract for training of mid-career IPS officers to the Cambridge University and the OP Jindal Global University, following an agreement signed at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad in March 2010.

As part of their mid-career refresher course to hone their policing skills, about 100 senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from 1991 to 1994 batch had in January this year gone to the University of Cambridge in the UK after completed their six-week training at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad conducted by experts from Cambridge University, OP Jindal Global University as also those from the United States.

The latest MoU lays the basis for JGU and its four schools to work closely with LBSNAA in a variety of training and research initiatives, Kumar said.
