"Now that the Prime Minister has said that a motion will be moved to constitute JPC, we sincerely hope that this important Budget Session functions smoothly and all opposition parties agree to it that the session can carry out its business constructively," party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters.
Asked whether the party regretted the washout of the Winter Session, she said, "We regret that the opposition did not allow Parliament to function in the Winter Session though we tried our best to convince the opposition that debate in Parliament should not become a victim of political expediency."
Natarajan also dismissed the contention that the government should have accepted the JPC demand earlier to save the Winter Session saying the government has taken all other steps to ensure a fair investigation in the case and agreed to JPC because the opposition was not letting Parliament run without such a probe.
