A committee appointed by the Delhi government on Saturday began an investigation to determine whether the death of Akkriti Bhatia, a student of Modern School, Vasant Vihar, occurred due to “negligence” of school authorities.

The inquiry committee, headed by regional director of education Sunita S Koshik, visited the school and spoke to the teachers and authorities about Monday’s incident.
Akkriti’s death after an asthma attack has stirred a controversy with her parents alleging their child died due to the school’s “negligence”.
“The team visited the school and spoke to school authorities and teachers. It will study the circumstances that led to the death and check whether the school has adequate facility to respond to emergency cases,” a senior Delhi government official said. Not authorised to speak to the media, he requested anonymity.
Ashok Pratap Singh, managing trustee of Modern School Trust, was not available for comment.
