The Delhi high court on Friday sought a response from New Delhi Municipal Council(NDMC) on a plea by the traders of Khan Market, challenging the single judge’s order to pay monthly licence fee of R5.34 lakh to ensure free parking of vehicles.

A bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Rajiv Shakdhar issued the notice to NDMC and sought the reply by July 11 on an appeal by the traders’ association.
The single judge, while disposing of the traders’ plea last month, had said “this court considers it appropriate to give Khan Market Traders’ Association (KMTA) one last opportunity to convey to NDMC its willingness to pay a monthly licence fee of Rs 5.34 lakh in which event it will be permitted to manage the parking in Khan Market for a period and on terms and conditions laid down by NDMC”.
The traders’ association had earlier offered to compensate the loss to NDMC for allowing free parking but refused to pay Rs 5.4 lakh (Rs 1,500 per shop), saying it was on the higher side.
