The catering firm hired by the OC to supply food to the volunteers and the workforce did a shoddy job. On its part, the firm blamed the stringent security imposed by the Delhi Police for the smelly and rotten food.

The OC, however, made it clear to the firm that they would hold back the payment as they had failed to deliver.

“The catering firm told us that sometimes it took them five hours to clear the security.. By the time the food packets reached the venues, it was spoilt,” said a senior OC official.

“But that is hardly an excuse, they were aware about our specifications. They should have gone for other products," said a senior OC official.

The company hired to provide WiFi connection at the Games village also failed, so their payment was also withheld.

“We received several complaints.. so we have decided to pay them only a fraction of what the contract said. It was clearly mentioned that there would be deductions in payments following non deliverance," said the official.
