Peerzada’s assets report invites tax dept notice

Mumbai-based real estate businessman Sahil Peerzada, who hit the headlines recently with a bandaged ear after a brawl involving him and Australian cricketer Luke Pomersbach, when the latter had allegedly tried to molest his fiancee Zohal Hamid, has now been summoned by the income tax (I-T) department's New Delhi office on May 30.

Mumbai-based real estate businessman Sahil Peerzada, who hit the headlines recently with a bandaged ear after a brawl involving him and Australian cricketer Luke Pomersbach, when the latter had allegedly tried to molest his fiancee Zohal Hamid, has now been summoned by the income tax (I-T) department's New Delhi office on May 30.

According to the I-T sources, taking cognizance of a newspaper report about the property of Peerzada brothers pegged at over Rs 3000 crore, the I-T department in New Delhi has summoned Peerzada to appear before the tax authority with relevant financial documents.

"The I-T department wants to scrutinize his documents, I-T returns and tally it with official records to find out whether it matches with the claim made in the newspaper report of Rs 3000 crore of wealth," the source said.

The news report also talked about Peerzada’s Dubai connection, through which they reportedly financed film producers. This is another area that has attracted the attention of taxmen, as the department is into monitoring of high net-worth individuals and cross-border transactions to combat black money menace.

Originally hailing from Kashmir, Sahil’s older brother Feroze, who started as a scarp dealer in Mumbai went on to become a real-estate player and built the family fortune.

"Though Peerzada’s assessment range is Mumbai, he has been called to Delhi on May 30 for a special scrutiny to look into his investments and business transaction details, and also whether he has links in cricket," I-T source said.
