A joint team of New Friends Colony police and southeast Delhi's special staff on Tuesday arrested the three for their alleged involvement in robbery at a house owned by a 63-year-old woman.

The accused stole cash and valuable worth over Rs 7 lakh when she was alone at her house. It was, however, a call to the victim's husband that got them arrested.

According to the police, the three accused entered the house by posing as MTNL employees who had come to repair a telephone.

"The arrested have been identified as Subhash (22) who was a driver employed in a house near to the victim's; Om Prakash (34) and Sonu Singh (22). Prakash, a graduate from Jamia Milia Islamia University and Singh are physically challenged. Prakash used to take tuition classes for the victim's grandchildren at their house. He was the mastermind behind the robbery," said Virender Singh Chahal, additional commissioner of police (southeast).

According to Chahal, Devi told the police that two men had come to the house saying they were mechanics who had come to repair the landline phone.

The police also found out that the accused knew about the victim and her family members.

It was later learnt that they men used their mobile phones to call the victim's husband on his mobile phone when she asked them to verify themselves.

"The call details of her husband mobile phone gave us the clues and we nabbed the accused," Chahal said.
