A public interest litigation was filed in the Delhi High Court on Wednesday against the appointment of Neeraj Kumar as the Delhi Police Commissioner.

Petitioner MG Devasahayam, a Chennai-based retired IAS officer, sought quashing of Kumar’s appointment, alleging that he has been facing several charges of misuse of power and human rights violations which had come in the way of his selection as CBI director earlier.
The petition referred to the “spurt in crime against women in Delhi” and his alleged “links” with Abhishek Verma, an accused in the naval war room leak case. Kumar has denied the charges.
A bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and justice Jayant Nath will hear the PIL on Wednesday. The petitioner had also raised the issue in the court on February 27 but the bench asked him to first approach the home ministry. This was a fresh plea.
