The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is planning to employ officials, including those on deputation, to keep an eye on pornographic content being screened in cinema halls, especially in the small towns of the country.

“We are thinking of implementing this plan if the ministry gives us the go-ahead. We are in the process of submitting the proposal,” Pankaja Thakur, CEO, CBFC said, adding the plan is at the very initial level at present. The officials will also monitor if the films
screened are actually the ones that were certified by the board.
This move follows reports that cinema hall owners have been splicing adult content in the middle of the films being screened to attract cinegoers. This usually happens in the morning shows.
If approved, the scheme will be the reincarnation of an earlier similar scheme during the Tenth Five Year Plan (2002-07) which failed to take off due to administrative and financial issues.
