Modi had earlier written to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Diskhit, who had forwarded the letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) demanding swift action. Shobhit Modi was found murdered on the night of May 5 at the gate of C-5 in Vasant Kunj.

"I have written several letters to the Delhi police commissioner but haven't received any response. The police have failed miserably. Even after 50 days (of Shobhit's murder), they are clueless and are working on 10 different theories," said Modi.

"They have not told us anything. We'll file a petition in court when it opens on July 5th," he added. Family and friends of Shobhit Modi organised a candle light vigil at Jantar Mantar on Saturday evening and blamed the city police for "botching up the investigation". The family said the police are changing their stance every day and are trying to put the case on the backburner. Around 200 people had gathered for the vigil.

The family also alleged that the police was going soft on the suspects and a better investigation would have led to the killers by now.

"Shobhit's girlfriend had informed him that her father had hired contract killers to eliminate him. The girl called Shobhit's mother on the night he was killed but couldn't say anything," Suraj Modi claimed.

"We don't think the police can solve this case. The murder investigations have been lax, tardy and leave a lot of unanswered questions," said Shobhit's brother Shubham.

The family has also initiated an SMS campaign to garner public support.
