Besides being vigilant and alert, senior Delhi Police officers would have to learn the names of their juniors as well as sanitation workers posted at any Commonwealth Games venue. The new guideline is part an elaborate Games security arrangement.
Because the inter-wireless network can also be breached, the police have gone back to primitive methods of memorising names of all men.
As part of venue security operation procedure prepared by the Delhi Police, all the 12 major stadiums and venues have been entrusted under "venue commanders" of the rank of additional commissioners of police and deputy commissioners. This is being done so that the movement of any suspicious person is caught immediately.
As part of an integrated security plan, the senior officers will have to memorise the names of all men deployed at the stadiums so that there is no chance of impersonation. They would also have to memorise the names of Organising Committee staff, janitors, volunteers and even the paramilitary officials.
Although the Delhi Police is yet to be handed over the venues and stadiums, it has already started the procedure of learning the names of all the junior officers. "We have a list of all the men who would be deployed at venues and are in the process of learning their names. This would rule out any kind of impersonation," said a senior police officer.
