After a series of reports in Hindustan Times on street crimes terrorising east Delhi residents, Delhi Police have swung into action and intensified presence on isolated stretches where snatchings are common.
More policemen were seen patrolling the roads on motorcycles, especially during morning and evening hours. The police have also increased the number of pickets on seemingly unlit and isolated roads.
The police have also launched a special drive to nab motorcycle-borne snatchers and robbers. Barricades have been put up with police personnel carrying out massive checking of vehicles, especially two-wheelers.
HT had on Tuesday reported that snatchers from northeast Delhi and Ghaziabad are having a field day in areas around plotted colonies of east Delhi. This year alone, 44 snatchings have been reported in these plotted residential areas.
As per a recent instruction of Delhi police chief Neeraj Kumar, police have started using different methods of setting up police pockets in their areas.
"In the integrated picket checking, not only officers from the local police are present, but a PCR van and traffic personnel are also deployed at the spot. Hopping picket checking are carried out as per need while permanent picket checking is a round-the-clock process,” said the senior officer.
