While an athlete from Trinidad and Tobago reported the theft of her make-up kit on October 6, an Indian athlete claimed that someone had stolen his pole-vault pole (12 to 15 metres long) from his room a day after the Games that had ended on Thursday.

Although it is highly unlikely, the Delhi Police has promised to parcel everything back to whom it belongs.

“Nine cases of crimes ranging from harassment to theft, were registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) during the event. In addition to these, 19 complaints relating to non-cognizable crimes were registered,” YS Dadwal, Delhi Police Commissioner said at a Press Conference on Saturday.

The victims include Indian bronze medal winner Seema Antil — who lost her accreditation card, athlete NV Nishad Kumar, who misplaced his wallet containing R7,000, driving license and identity card in addition to synchro-swimmer, Avani Dave, who lost her mobile phone. India’s Chandrodaya Narain Singh also lost his accreditation card.

“We recevied complaints that R36,000, US$1,570, $550 (Australian), $380 (Eastern Caribbean), 100 euros and £60 were missing,” said a senior Delhi Police officer.

The Delhi Police have taken a resolve to conduct a “serious investigation” of all the cases registered with it.

“We will be investigating each case and take it to its logical conclusion as per the Indian Penal Code as soon as possible,” said Rajan Bhagat, spokesperson, Delhi Police.

The complainants have gone back to their respective home countries, but that will not hamper their chances of getting back their stolen or “misplaced” property, said Bhagat.
