While Chauhan's family members and relatives were in a state of shock, Aman, who was expecting a bicycle from his father on his seventh birthday, was playing happily at his house, unaware that he had lost his father in a road accident.

"None of us has mustered the courage to tell the small child that the person who had promised him a bicycle on his birthday is no more. We felt that Aman was a lucky son because he shared his birthday with his father. Today, we consider him as the unluckiest child on this earth," said Chauhan's eldest sister, Anju Singh, who works in Delhi Commission for Women.

Chauhan's family members alleged that despite being an accused, officers at the Paschim Vihar police station, where Chauhan worked, were treating Gurdeep Singh as their guest.

Chauhan is survived by his wife Manisha, 33, and two children, Aryan, 9 and Aman, 6.
